WEIGHT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT FOR OVERWEIGHT DOGS
Determine your target weight and then set your feeding schedule. The recommended daily amount of food is based on your pet’s ideal weight. The feeding schedule may need to be adjusted between check-ups, based on your dog’s body response and rate of weight loss. Aim to lose 1 – 3% of body weight per week for the first 3 months and then 0.5 – 2%.
How is the energy requirement for maintenance of body weight after weight loss calculated? The energy requirement for maintenance of body weight in dogs after weight loss is lower than in dogs that have never been obese. Based on current scientific knowledge (German & al. 2011), the maintenance energy requirement after weight loss for Satiety is calculated by increasing the weight loss ration by 10%.
Note: The maintenance ration after weight loss can be adjusted according to the individual’s lifestyle.
